Kenyan police have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the murder of Ugandan athlete, Benjamin Kiplagat, local media said.
Police said that they relied on CCTV footage obtained from the scene of crime and other technical clues to track down and arrest the suspects.
Earlier in the day, law enforcement officials told media that the track and field athlete, whose body was found on New Year's Eve with wounds, had a conflict with motorcyclists on the road who are believed to have stabbed the multiple Olympic competitor.
The suspects will appear in court on Tuesday, police added.
Uganda's Minister of Sports, Peter Ogwang, expressed his condolences over Kiplagat's death, describing him as a "budding athlete."
"I send my deepest condolences to his family, Ugandans, and the entire East Africa for the loss of such a budding athlete who has on several occasions represented us on the international scene," he said.
Kiplagat, a Kenyan-born Ugandan, whose athletic career spanned some 18 years, won a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2008 World Junior Championships and a bronze medal at the 2012 African Championships.
He reached the semifinals at the 2012 London Olympics and competed in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
