On Monday, Iraqi news agency Shafaq News reported that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group representing Shia militant groups, had claimed responsibility for the attack.
"Outlaw groups are attempting to attack Iraqi bases where advisers of the international coalition forces are stationed, including the incident that occurred on Monday when an explosive-laden drone detonated near Erbil's civil airport. The incident resulted in several injuries, property damage and disruption of airport operations, affecting civilian flights," the spokesman said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.
It added that "such criminal actions aim to harm Iraqi interests, regional and international relations and ties."
The Iraqi law enforcement agencies, in coordination with intelligence services, pledged to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
