Incumbent Egyptian President Sisi Wins First Round of Presidential Election by Huge Margin

Some 67 million Egyptians had the opportunity to vote in last week's presidential election. During the elections, 9,376 polling stations were open across the country, and 14 international organizations and 220 international observers monitored the electoral process.

Incumbent Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has won the first round of the presidential election by a big margin, receiving 89.6% of the votes, Hazem Badawy, the head of the Egyptian National Election Authority, said on Monday.
El-Sisi was reelected for a third consecutive term as president of Egypt.
The presidential election took place in Egypt from December 10-12. A total of four candidates, including el-Sisi, ran for a six-year term.

El-Sisi was elected president of Egypt after winning the 2014 elections with 96.90% of the vote. He was re-elected for a second term in 2018, receiving more than 97% of the vote.
In April 2019, Egypt held a referendum that resulted in the adoption of amendments allowing el-Sisi to run for another term and increasing the presidential term from four to six years.
