Egypt's presidential election was marked by "unprecedented" turnout, the National Election Authority said without providing a precise figure.
The polling stations closed at 19:00 GMT (21:00 local time), and the counting of the ballots began. The official results are expected on December 18th, the commission said.

Among the candidates for the top job are the country's incumbent leader; the leader of Egypt's Republican People's Party, Hazem Omar; the leader of the country's Wafd party, Abdel Sanad Yamama and the leader of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, Farid Zahran.
On May 28, 2014, el-Sisi was elected for the first time with 96.90% of the vote. In March 2018, he was re-elected for a second term with more than 97% of the vote.
