US Military to Bolster Space-Based Capabilities in Europe, Africa, EUCOM Says

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - United States European Command (EUCOM) is a unified combatant command of the United States military, with its headquarters located in Stuttgart, Germany. Its focus area includes all of Europe, large portions of Asia, parts of the Middle East and the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.

The US military is bolstering its space-based capabilities in Europe and Africa after activating US Space Forces Europe and Africa, which will be headquartered at a US base in Germany, US European Command (EUCOM) said on Friday.
"US European Command, US Africa Command and US Space Force officially activated the US Space Forces Europe and Africa component command at a ceremony in Ramstein, Germany on Dec. 8, 2023," EUCOM said in a press release.
The release said the command post will have permanent headquarters at Ramstein Air Base.
The new command post will be staffed by approximately 30 service members and support EUCOM's growing need for space-based capabilities such as satellite navigation, communications and integration with NATO allies and partners, according to the release.
A space component was previously established in US Indo-Pacific Command and US Central Command, the release noted.
