A suspected leader of the foiled coup attempt on November 26 in Sierra Leone has been detained, according to media reports citing the country's army Spokesman, Colonel Issa Bangura.
Amadu Koita, a member of ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma’s security guard, is under investigation for his links to the failed coup, as stated by Bangura, according to the outlet.
Following the attack on Sierra Leone's armory and the central Pademba Road Prisons on November 26, the government introduced a nationwide curfew, later restricted to night hours. On November 27, Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio revealed that "most of the leaders" of the attackers had been arrested.
According to Bangura, as a result of the attacks, allegedly led mostly by Koroma's bodyguards, approximately 20 people died, including soldiers, assailants and one civilian, and around 2,000 prisoners escaped. Later, the attacks were declared an attempted coup.
