Saint Petersburg has hot, humid and short summers, but winters are long, moderate and cold. In November-December, the Neva River usually freezes, thawing in April. With an average of 118 days, from December to March, you can expect to find a picturesque snowy landscape.
In winter, daily minimum temperatures range from -5 °C to -8 °C and rarely fall below -22 °C. However, in 1833 there was a winter minimum record of chilling -35.9 °C. The streets are covered with an average of 19 cm of snow, creating a charming city full of white allure.
The city's winter has inspired artists from all over the world and has been the reference for some of the city's most beautiful attractions, such as the classical Winter Palace, decorated in an excellent combination of azure, white and gold. The palace, located in the heart of St. Petersburg, served as the official residence of the past emperors from 1732 to 1917.
