Russian Defense Minister Inspects Russia's Forward Command Post in South Donetsk Direction

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The outskirts of Donetsk have been a battleground since the start of the armed crisis in Ukraine in 2014, while the southern Donetsk region has recently emerged as the epicenter of the conflict, with Kiev attempting to breach the border separating the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) from the Zaporozhye region.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu paid a working visit to the zone of Russia's military operation in Ukraine and inspected a forward command post of the Vostok group of forces in the South Donetsk direction, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"During a working visit to the zone of the special military operation, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army, Sergey Shoigu, inspected a forward command post of Russia's Vostok group of forces in the South Donetsk direction," the ministry said in a statement.

The minister listened to the reports by the commander of the group on the current situation on the frontline and the fulfillment of tasks by Russian forces in main tactical directions, the statement added.
