China is ready to work together with Egypt on facilitating a ceasefire between Palestine and Israel as well as providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun said on Tuesday.
"China is ready to interact and coordinate with Egypt for the speediest cessation of fire and violence between the sides to the conflict as well as for the international community to join efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in order to avoid a deepening humanitarian crisis in Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip," Zhai said.
The Chinese diplomat pointed out that the reason for the Israeli-Palestinian issue and conflicts constantly flaring up there was the absence of a just solution for Palestine.
"The fundamental solution is to implement a two-state model. The international community must urgently make efforts to advance the implementation of the two-state model," Zhai said.
Later in the day, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi said that Cairo remained committed to its obligations before Arab countries, including on the Palestinian issue, adding that the only way to achieve security for the Palestinian people is a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
"We will not let the Palestinian issue be rescinded at the expense of other stakeholders," Sisi was quoted by Al-Qahera News broadcaster as saying.
Egypt is currently discussing with its regional and international partners possible ways to stop violence and achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine, the president added.
On Saturday, the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale attack on Israel, prompting Israel to declare a state of war the following day. On Monday, Israel put the Gaza Strip under full blockade, with no food, gas or electricity supplies. Both Israel and Palestine have so far reported hundreds of dead and thousands of injured as a result of the escalation.
