Burkina Faso has decided to expel French embassy’s military attache Emmanuel Pasquier for "subversive activities," L'Agence d'Information du Burkina (AIB) reported on Friday, citing a source.
According to the source, Pasquier and other employees of France’s military mission in Ouagadougou have to leave the African country within two weeks.
At the end of September 2022, media reported that a group of soldiers in Burkina Faso, led by Captain Ibrahim Traorу, announced the removal of the head of the country's transitional government, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogou Damiba, the suspension of the constitution and the dissolution of the government. Damiba announced his readiness to voluntarily resign if the rebels fulfill several conditions.
Burkina Faso, located in the Sahel region, has been struggling to contain a radical jihadist offensive that has continued since 2015.
