The Biden administration is redirecting $55 million in military aid initially meant for Egypt to Taiwan because of US concerns over Cairo's human rights record, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.
The report said on Wednesday that the United States decided to withhold a portion of US military aid for Egypt after it determined Cairo failed to make progress on human rights and other issues.
Several US lawmakers are urging Biden to withhold an additional $235 million as a means to further penalize Egypt, according to the report.
