Russia's Air Defenses Drop 11 Ukrainian Drones Over Crimea Overnight, Defense Ministry Says

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Sunday, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Yuri Kokov said that more than 70 major terrorist attacks, including on energy facilities, military and civilian aircraft, have been prevented in Russia since the beginning of the country's special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

Russian air defense systems shot down 11 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Crimea overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said early Thursday.

"On September 14, around 5:30 am Moscow time [02:30 GMT], an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks against facilities in the territory of Russia using aircraft-type UAVs was thwarted. Air defense systems on duty destroyed 11 unmanned aerial vehicles over the territory of the Republic of Crimea," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, Russian air defense systems destroyed two more Ukrainian aircraft-type drones over the Bryansk region, according to the ministry.

"On September 14, at about 00:10 Moscow time, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by two aircraft-type UAVs on objects on the territory of Russia was stopped. Unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed by air defense on duty over the territory of the Bryansk region," the department said.

On Wednesday, at about 21:30 Moscow time, a Ukrainian aircraft-type drone over the Belgorod region was discovered and destroyed by Russian air defense systems, the ministry revealed early Thursday.
Earlier that day, the defense ministry reported that the naval aviation of the Black Sea Fleet found and destroyed three Ukrainian unmanned boats in the Black Sea.
