King of Morocco Visits Earthquake Victims in Hospital, Donates Blood, Media Says

CAIRO (Sputnik) - Last Friday, Morocco was hit by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake 77 kilometers (48 miles) southwest of the city of Marrakesh with a population of over 800,000 people.

King of Morocco Mohammed VI has visited victims of last week's devastating earthquake at a hospital in the city of Marrakesh and donated blood, Moroccan media reported Tuesday.
The king visited the Marrakesh University Hospital named after him on Tuesday afternoon and inquired about the health of the victims, state broadcaster revealed.

On September 7, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Morocco 77 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh with a population of 839,000 people. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, and was followed by at least four aftershocks of up to 4.8-magnitude.
Media reported on Monday that the death toll from the earthquake reached 2,862 people, while over 2,562 others received injuries. The king declared a three-day mourning in the country.
