Russian Upper House Says Recorded Attempts to Meddle in Elections by US, UK, Germany

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Elections of top officials in 21 constituent entities of Russia and by-elections for State Duma deputies were held in most regions over three days starting on September 8.

The Russian Federation Council commission on protecting state sovereignty said on Monday that it had recorded attempts to discredit the elections in the country by the US, the UK, Germany, Poland and others.
"For the period from September 7-10 alone, the commission recorded participation in attempts to discredit the elections on the single voting day of the US State Department, the UK Foreign Ministry, the German Foreign Ministry, the Polish Foreign Ministry, the prime minister of Canada, the US permanent representative to the OSCE, the UK permanent representative to the UN, the current OSCE chairman [and others] ... The elections on the single voting day were accompanied by coordinated attempts to discredit Russian electoral procedures on the part of the United States and other NATO countries," the upper house commission wrote on Telegram.

Earlier in the day, Russian parliamentary speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the US and the EU were doing everything possible to prevent the local elections of the regions that incorporated into Russia last October following a referendum: the Donetsk and Lugansk Peoples' Republics as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
