"Gunfire was recorded from the armed formations of Ukraine: [at] 7:55 (coincides with Moscow time) three 155 mm caliber shells were fired at the settlement of Kurakhovka - the city of Donetsk (Kirov district)... [at] 8:00 - three 155 mm caliber shells were fired [toward] the settlement of Kurakhovka - the city of Donetsk (Kirovskiy district)," the representative office said.
Sixteen more of the same shells were fired at the Kirovsky, Kuibyshevsky and Kievsky districts of Donetsk. In addition, Ukrainian troops fired at the village of Golmovsky with seven 152-mm shells, according to the representative office.
Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kiev following the violent coup d'état in Ukraine, the area has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian security forces.
NATO countries use 155 mm caliber artillery shells.
The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 155-mm howitzers, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.
Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
