On Wednesday, President Samia Suluhu Hassan made changes to Tanzania's cabinet and announced the creation of a new post of deputy prime minister, through a statement that was read by Chief Secretary Moses Kusiluka.
As part of some of the changes, former Minister of Minerals Dotto Mashaka Biteko was nominated as Deputy Prime Minister for the Coordination of Governmental Affairs and Minister of Energy.
Moreover, January Makamba has left the energy ministry to become minister for Foreign Affairs and East African cooperation.
Additionally, Dr Stergomena Tax has left Foreign Affairs to return to the Ministry of Defense where she replaces Innocent Bashungwa who was appointed as Minister of Works.
Earlier in August, a new Afrobarometer report by the Policy Research for Development (Repoa) was released, according to which, at least 61% of Tanzanians are happy with the government's policies.
Her government's reforms are reportedly aimed primarily at attracting investment, as well as helping to stimulate employment and economic growth. In December 2021, Hassan announced the creation of a taskforce on political reform and democracy.
Since her ascension to the presidency two years ago, Hassan implemented a number of other political decisions, including the launch of reconciliation talks between the government and opposition.
