International University Ranking 2023 Includes Three Russian Universities in Top-100

The first Russian University was established in 1724, since then, the country's academic community has grown internationally. In 2022, the number of foreign students studying at Russian universities increased by 8.4%, compared to 2021 and reached 351,000 students, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Three Russian universities — Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), St. Petersburg University (SPbU) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have entered the top-100 of the 2023 Three University Missions Moscow International University Ranking (MosIUR), MSU said on Wednesday.
"The 2023 Three University Missions global ranking included 2,000 universities from 112 countries. Russia remained among the top three global leaders in terms of its representation in the ranking, as 154 universities from the country's 46 regions were listed as the best universities. Three Russian participants made it into the top 100, including MSU (17th place), SPbU (39th place) and MIPT (43rd place)," MSU said in a statement.
MosIUR said that the United States was the most represented in the ranking with 252 universities, followed by China with 232 universities, Russia with 154, the United Kingdom with 109 and Japan with 101.
"The upper part of the table is dominated by US universities, same as last year. Harvard (#1) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (#2) topped the ranking, followed by Oxford (#3), Cambridge (#4) and the University College London (#5). Best results among Asian universities were demonstrated by the University of Tokyo (#11) and Peking University (#18)," MosIUR said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, MSU Rector Viktor Sadovnichy announced that the university planned to develop a number of joint university ratings with Asian and African countries as well as with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
MosIUR is an academic ranking that evaluates the three key missions of a university — education, science and interaction with society. The rating is published annually since 2017.
