Burundi expects a huge delivery of military equipment from Russia in the near future, Defense Minister Alain Tribert Mutabazi told Sputnik Africa.
"Notable progress can be noted in the field of training and capacity building. In the near future, we are planning an exchange of specialists and a large supply of equipment," the minister said on the sidelines of the Army-2023 forum, adding that the African country has handed over to Moscow a list of weaponry it would like to purchase.
The minister also said that the military cooperation between Burundi and Russia is on a good level, mentioning that it is carried out within the framework of bilateral agreements, including the one signed in July 2022.
The minister arrived in Moscow to participate in the Army-2023 International Military-Technical Forum, which is being organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense at the Patriot Russian Army Exhibition Park outside Moscow from August 14 to 20.
Mutabazi held a series of meetings with Russian defense officials and Rosoboronexport, Russia's leading arms exporter, to discuss military-technical cooperation between the two countries. In an interview with Sputnik, he expressed his satisfaction with the meetings, describing them as successful and reflective of the strong friendship and open cooperation between Burundi and Russia.
