The US ambassador to South Africa must leave the African nation if he lied about arms supplies to Russia, Adriaan Basson, editor-in-chief of the local portal News 24 has recently stated.
Basson has recalled that last May, at a press briefing, Brigety said that he could put his life on the line that South Africa supplied weapons to Russia with via Lady R.
According to the editor-in-chief, now it's time for the envoy to take responsibility for his words.
A few days ago, a number of leading media outlets raised the question of the need to expel the US ambassador for his baseless allegations, which led, among other things, to a fall in the exchange rate of the national currency against the dollar due to concerns about the threat of Western sanctions against South Africa.
Brigety made his claims on May 11 this year. After that, the South African Foreign Ministry expressed its dissatisfaction with the envoy's performance.
Later, he apologized to the country, saying that he had crossed the line in his statements.
