The heads of all the states that have applied to join the BRICS have received an invitation to participate in the summit of the group in Johannesburg, a diplomatic source told Russian media.
"The heads of African states were invited to the summit. All the countries that applied for membership in the BRICS were also invited, there are about 20 of them. We can't name the exact number yet. But it will be huge," the source noted.
The BRICS Summit will be held on August 22-24 in Johannesburg and will be chaired by South Africa.
According to South Africa's foreign minister, the issue of the group's expansion will be discussed at the summit.
