Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has ordered a trade mission to be established in Nigeria this year, according to a published government statement.
Moscow's Ministry of Industry and Trade has been instructed to approve the structure of the institution and the number of employees.
The expenses linked to the opening of the representative office will be covered by the allocations provided to the ministry.
In late May, President Bola Tinubu, who was elected in February, was sworn in office in Nigeria. The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Russia expected to further strengthen friendly relations with Nigeria in the fields of politics, trade and investment.
"We express confidence that as Head of State, Tinubu will do his best to meet the ambitious socio-economic development challenges facing the country and will also consistently pursue the line of enhancing Nigeria's role and influence in regional and international affairs," the statement added.
Honorary commissioner for regional integration in Nigeria, Prince Ologbese Adeboboye, told Sputnik Africa that the inauguration of the new Nigerian president should foster more durable relations between Abuja and Moscow.
According to the official, trade turnover between the countries is represented mainly by oil products and wheat.
