Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon has set a new mark for the women's 1,500-meter race in a time of three minutes and 49.11 seconds at the Florence Diamond League held on June 2 in Italy.
"I'm so excited, so happy, I didn't expect this. I was expecting a world lead, not a world record, but I'm so grateful," Kipyegon told media. "As I said today and yesterday everything is possible."
With two world championships and two Olympic gold medals to her record, Kipyegon, who is regarded as the finest female athlete in the history of the sport, dominated the competition in the Italian region of Tuscany.
The athlete completed the run over 12 seconds ahead of Laura Muir, the current European champion, and Jessica Hull of Australia.
