Bola Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria's new head of state on Monday, succeeding Muhammadu Buhari, a former military officer who resigned after serving two terms.

"As president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria I will discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the constitution," the politician stated in a live broadcast from the country's capital Abuja.

African leaders, such as Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, and Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, as well as delegations from Britain, the US, and China, were among the viewers present at the event.
Yemi Osinbajo's successor as vice president, Kashim Shettima, was also sworn in.
The pair from the governing party, who received 8.8 million votes and the necessary number of ballots from two-thirds of Nigeria's states, were proclaimed the winners of the February 25 election.
