Black Sea Fleet: 240 Years of Ensuring Russia's Maritime Security

On Saturday 13 May, the Russian Black Sea Fleet celebrates its 240th anniversary. On this day in 1783, a detachment of ships of the Azov flotilla entered Akhtyar Bay, which later became known as Sevastopol Bay.

For almost two-and-a-half centuries, the Black Sea Fleet has heroically defended its home port during the Crimean War, made great sacrifices during the Great Patriotic War and managed to preserve the "core of the fleet" in the difficult Nineties.
Today, the Black Sea Fleet guarantees Russia's security in the south of the country. It includes dozens of the most modern warships and submarines equipped with the latest missile weapons, which allow sailors to tackle any situation in remote areas of the seas and oceans, including off the coast of Syria.

Russia's Black Sea Fleet includes:

Diesel-electric submarines (powered by electricity as well as diesel);
Ships capable of operating in distant and near seas;
Missile carriers, anti-submarine and fighter aircraft; and
Coast Guard units.

Black Sea Fleet to have three ships equipped with long-range, high-precision missiles

In 2023, the combat power of the Black Sea Fleet will be supplemented by three small Karakurt-class corvette. They will be armed with long-range, high-precision 3M54-1 Kalibr missiles.

The Black Sea Fleet strengthens its defenses against drone attacks
