The 57th session of the Economic Commission for Africa, including the Conference of Ministers (COM2025), took place from March 12 to 18 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It centered on advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area and addressed digitalization, technology, food security, and energy transformation.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is projected to boost Africa's GDP by 1.2% and increase the region's welfare by 0.9% by 2045, according to the report published at the 57th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, held in Addis Ababa from March 12 to 18.
Actions required to support the region, according to the report:
Invest $120.83 billion in transport equipment by 2030;
Simplify rules to improve market access and stimulate innovation;
Facilitate trade by streamlining customs procedures and reducing non-tariff barriers.
