Al-Shabaab Militants Reportedly Attack Somali President's Motorcade

The explosion allegedly occurred at the El-Gaabta intersection near the presidential palace. As a result of the attack, there are casualties, and security forces have cordoned off the scene. Militants from the Al-Shabaab* group claimed responsibility for the attack.
An explosion occurred near the palace of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu as his motorcade was leaving the building, the local newspaper Somali Guardian reported on Tuesday.
The head of state was not injured, according to the report.

The president continued his trip to the Middle Shabelle region to meet with military personnel conducting operations against Al-Shabaab militants.
Shortly after, the Somali president, dressed in military gear and armed with a pistol, took a helicopter to frontline areas to boost army morale, the local media added.
