Russian President Vladimir Putin resists Western pressure because Ukraine was used to advance EU, NATO, and US agendas, Dr. Ntsikelelo Breakfast, professor at the Department of History and Political Studies at the Nelson Mandela University, told Sputnik Africa. He added that the US "has been contributing to the security of Europe for purposes of pursuing its foreign policy agenda of framing a particular world order." Dr. Breakfast said that US President Donald Trump's policy shift, demanding that EU and NATO members fund their own security, gave Putin a strategic advantage in protecting Russia's sovereignty. He believes Putin acted against NATO and US bullying, seeing Ukraine as a pawn in their expansionist plans. The expert stated that Putin has capitalized on the diplomatic fallout, making Europe and Ukraine the biggest losers. He added that European countries and the US disagree on the issue, with the US preferring conflict management over funding Ukrainian military operations.Without the support of the US, European countries, and NATO members, Ukraine would have been defeated in the conflict with Russia "in two weeks," Dr. Breakfast said, agreeing with Trump.Zelensky may soon need to reach a deal with the US, the expert stated, saying that despite past misunderstandings over a mineral agreement with Trump, a resolution could be on the horizon within the next couple of weeks.Dr. Breakfast noted that Russia "maintains an upper hand on the battlefield," highlighting the effectiveness of its military strategy, superiority, and the resilience and patriotism of its soldiers.Earlier, during the talks between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Jeddah, Ukraine agreed to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, which was proposed by the US.

Russian President Vladimir Putin resists Western pressure because Ukraine was used to advance EU, NATO, and US agendas,
Dr. Ntsikelelo Breakfast, professor at the Department of History and Political Studies at the Nelson Mandela University, told
Sputnik Africa. He added that the US "has been contributing to the security of Europe for purposes of pursuing its foreign policy agenda of framing a particular world order."
Dr. Breakfast said that US President Donald Trump's policy shift, demanding that EU and NATO members
fund their own security, gave Putin a strategic advantage in protecting Russia's sovereignty. He believes Putin acted against NATO and US bullying, seeing Ukraine as a pawn in their expansionist plans.
The expert stated that Putin has capitalized on the diplomatic fallout, making Europe and Ukraine the biggest losers. He added that European countries and the US disagree on the issue, with the US preferring conflict management over funding Ukrainian military operations.
Without the support of the US, European countries, and
NATO members, Ukraine would have been defeated in the conflict with Russia "in two weeks," Dr. Breakfast said, agreeing with Trump.
"But now the carpet has been pulled out, and it is really breaking down, you know, and that is felt on the ground by men and women in uniform. So, there is no way it can continue in this war without striking a deal with the US," the expert said.
Zelensky may soon need to reach a deal with the US, the expert stated, saying that despite past misunderstandings over a mineral agreement with
Trump, a resolution could be on the horizon within the next couple of weeks.
Dr. Breakfast noted that Russia "maintains an upper hand on the battlefield," highlighting the effectiveness of its military strategy, superiority, and the resilience and patriotism of its soldiers.
