Dealing With Ukraine is More Difficult Than Dealing With Russia, US President Trump Says
09:47 08.03.2025 (Updated: 10:37 10.03.2025) WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – At a press conference in the Oval Office on Friday, US President Donald Trump said he had always had a very good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he finds it to be more difficult to deal with Ukraine than with Russia.
“I am finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine,” Trump told reporters.
In terms of getting the final settlement, it
may be easier to get a deal with Russia, he added.
European leaders have no plan on how to end the conflict in Ukraine, while Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to see it settled, the US top official noted.
“They [Europeans] are in a very unusual position. They don't know how to end the war. I think I do know how to end the war. [...] I watched over the last week or so what's going on in Europe. This thing could end up in World War III if we don't get it [the conflict in Ukraine] settled,” he said.
According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin is exploiting the situation on the ground in Ukraine amid a pause in US military and intelligence aid, stating that "anyone in his position would be doing the same thing right now."
"I think he wants to get it stopped and settled. And I think he's hitting them harder than he's been hitting them. And I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now. He wants to get it ended. And I think Ukraine wants to get it ended," the US president stated.
Putin wants to
end the conflict and is "more generous than he has to be," Trump added.
"And that's pretty good. That means a lot of good things. Because, frankly, you could have made a great deal if this war never started; you could have made a great deal. I don't know that anything would have had to be given up," he pointed out.
