MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump called Gaza a "demolition site" and said that the US would "take over" the reconstruction. He also suggested a mass relocation of Palestinians to other countries, such as Egypt or Jordan, as part of his plan to turn the Gaza Strip into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
The White House mulls relocating Gazans to Somaliland and Puntland in Somalia and to Morocco, Israel's N12 broadcaster has reported.
Somaliland and Puntland are Somalia's autonomous regions that have declared their independence but have not been recognized internationally. Both regions and Morocco have a need for political support from the US because the first two strive for recognition while Morocco wants to settle the West Sahara territorial dispute, the broadcaster said late on Wednesday, adding that all three regions have a Sunni majority.
The essence of Washington's plan to evacuate and rebuild the Gaza Strip is in restoring the enclave and not in its annexation by the US, the broadcaster added.
