US Should End 'Misguided' Bid to Enlarge NATO Via Ukraine, Georgia, Economist Sachs Says

WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Lenka White - Politico reported last July that if Donald Trump were to be elected in November, he would contemplate a strategy to halt NATO's expansion eastward and engage in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to address ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The United States should end its "misguided" attempt to enlarge NATO by adding Ukraine and Georgia and return to nuclear weapons control agreements with Russia, renowned American economist and professor at Columbia University Jeffrey Sachs told RIA Novosti.
"The US should end the misguided and stupid attempt to enlarge NATO to Ukraine and Georgia and should return to nuclear arms agreements with Russia," Sachs said.

The economist also called for the immediate end of the Ukraine conflict.
"The US and Russia should end the war in Ukraine forthwith ... Both sides should stop the fighting. Ukraine should understand that the US will neither arm Ukraine nor fund it until peace is achieved based on Ukraine's neutrality and an end to fighting," Sachs added.
