The United States is not struggling for global competition with China, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said on Friday. Hicks added that even though the United States is in a strategic competition in China, "competition does not mean conflict, because no one should desire the global devastation such a war would bring." The United States must prevail in this strategic competition, she said. According to the Pentagon senior official, today the United States maintains significant overmatch in many areas compared to the PRC, and Russia. Hicks mentioned several areas where she said the United States is outpacing China, including undersea warfare, space launches, use of data and AI for military needs.

US Not Struggling for Global Domination With China, Pentagon Says
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – When meeting US President Joe Biden in Lima, Peru in November 2024, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China and the United States should not view each other as enemies, or their relations will regress.
The United States is not struggling for global
competition with China, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said on Friday.
"To be clear, we are not — and we have no cause to be — in an ideological struggle for global domination with the PRC [People's Republic of China]," Hicks said during the conversation at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
Hicks added that even though the United States is in a strategic competition in China, "competition does not mean conflict, because no one should desire the global devastation such a war would bring."
The United States must prevail in this strategic competition, she said.
"We must be forthright about how advanced the PRC’s military has become, then do our utmost to out-think, out-maneuver, and out-strategize them: to prevent war if we can, by being able to prevail in a war if we must," Hicks said.
According to the Pentagon senior official, today the United States maintains significant overmatch in many areas compared to the PRC, and Russia.
"So from day one, we’ve focused relentlessly on driving changes needed to outpace the PRC and ensure our enduring military advantage. The result has been a more modernized, lethal, agile force, across our capabilities, operational concepts, posture, and much more," she said.
Hicks mentioned several areas where she said the United States is outpacing China, including undersea warfare, space launches, use of data and AI for military needs.
