The conflict in Sudan, which has seen clashes between the Sudanese army and the rebel Rapid Support Forces, has left an estimated 12,260 people dead and more than 33,000 injured, according to UN data. The UN has warned of the devastating consequences of the conflict, including the world's worst displacement crisis and the looming threat of famine.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with UN Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in Cairo on Thursday to discuss ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the war-torn country.
"Egypt is keen on preserving Sudan’s interests and maintaining its territorial integrity," Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said during a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in Cairo on Thursday.

Sudan Reportedly Briefs UN Security Council Team on Violations by Rapid Support Forces
The Egyptian diplomat added that Cairo is involved in regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a cease-fire and settlement in the war-torn country "to end the suffering of the Sudanese people" and to safeguard "Sudan's interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity."
The meeting also focused on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and explored potential solutions to the conflict that has gripped the nation since April 2023, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
