The Venezuelan government thanks Russian President Vladimir Putin for his unconditional support for Venezuela's entry to BRICS, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez wrote on Telegram. She added that with its huge energy reserves, Venezuela will greatly contribute to the BRICS cause of building a new international economic order. The Russian leader, at a bilateral meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro, which took place in Kazan on Wednesday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, said Russia supports Venezuela's desire to join the organization. Putin said that the fundamental values and principles on which the association's activities are based are close to those of Venezuelans: respect for each other's legitimate interests and sovereignty, the sovereign choice of states and peoples, mutually beneficial and fair equal cooperation. At a narrow-format meeting of the Kazan BRICS Summit, the Russian president said it would be wrong to ignore the unprecedented interest of the countries of the Global South and East in strengthening contacts with BRICS. He said more than 30 states have already expressed such a desire in one form or another, while the organization needs to maintain a balance and not allow a decrease in efficiency.
