The Ethiopian government is taking steps to prevent mpox from entering the country, Ethiopian state media ENA reported on Thursday, citing Ethiopian Health Minister Mekdes Daba.She also noted that so far, no cases of mpox have been recorded in the country. However, after the World Health Organization declared the mpox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency of international concern on August 14, Addis Ababa began to develop preventive measures.This includes strengthening border controls, deploying a network of laboratories to diagnose the disease, and improving the professional training of specialists.On Wednesday, the UN's International Organization for Migration requested $18.5 million in aid to provide critical assistance to individuals affected by mpox in Southern and Eastern Africa. Perhaps some of this money will go to Ethiopia.

According to the WHO, the virus spreads to humans via wild animals like rodents and primates, with limited secondary human-to-human transmission. The fatality rate for outbreaks ranges from 1% to 10%.
