Iran Urges Islamic Countries to Stop Cooperation With Israel, Acting Foreign Minister Says
10:34 09.06.2024 (Updated: 12:14 10.06.2024) ANKARA (Sputnik) - Islamic countries should stop political, economic cooperation with Israel and boycott imports, acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri said on Saturday.
"In our opinion, the most effective initiative Islamic countries can undertake would be to stop political and economic cooperation with this [Israeli] regime and boycott all imports and exports with it," Bagheri said in an interview with the CNN Turk broadcaster.
Iran will effectively use its power to deter Israel in the event of destabilization in the region, he noted.
"The Zionists' targeting and attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus has forced Iran to effectively and wisely use its power components to protect the security and stability of the region. I think the Zionists know very well that when the stability and security of the region are threatened and they try to destabilize the region, Iran will effectively and wisely use its might to contain them and put them in their place," Bagheri said.
His position was
echoed by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani, who said on Saturday that sanctioning Israeli goods and companies is the easiest and most effective way to protest against Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
"Imposing sanctions against Zionist goods and companies is the easiest thing to do but is very effective," Kanaani said on X.
He added that the nations as well as the non-governmental organizations had more responsibility to support Palestine amid "the inaction by governments and the United Nations Security Council."
Israel has been
conducting military operations in the Gaza Strip as a response to the attack in its territory by Palestinian movement Hamas on October 7, 2023. Over
36,500 people have been killed so far by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, according to local authorities.
