On January 1, BRICS, the economic bloc of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, formally welcomed Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia as full members. This year, as Russia takes over the presidency of the expanded BRICS group, the development of international trade in local currencies is one of the group's key agenda items.
The United States does not like everything that is out of its control and is working behind the scenes to destroy the BRICS organization, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday.
"Of course, Washington does not like everything that is beyond its control and, moreover, simply beyond its direct command," Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday. "Everything that goes beyond the mono model of American leadership, American hegemony [...] causes Washington's rejection."
The deputy minister added that "work is underway, including behind the scenes, to undermine BRICS, to disrupt its projects, to complicate the activities of its institutions."
Russia
has assumed the presidency of the BRICS group of countries in 2024. The theme of the chairmanship is "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security."

were joined by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt as new full members of BRICS.
With the addition of the new members, the BRICS has grown to 10 countries with a population of 3.6 billion – nearly half the world's population. The countries account for more than 40% of global oil production and about a quarter of global exports.
