MOSCOW (Sputnik) - South Africa's national energy company PetroSA said on Monday that together with Russia's Gazprombank Africa, it started studying the feasibility of reviving a gas-to-liquids (GTL) refinery located in the South African coastal city of Mossel Bay.
"The feasibility study for the refurbishment contract with Gazprombank Africa — which will provide an overview of all factors impacting on the viability of the reinstatement of the gas-to-liquids refinery — is currently underway," company spokeswoman Nonny Mashika-Dennison told the Western media.
In 2023, the South African cabinet chose Gazprombank Africa as a partner for the project to restart the refinery.
PetroSA is a state company and holds offshore fields in the Cape Town area in Mossel Bay. Oil development started there in the 1970s.
