The Hamas leadership is not expecting any positive outcomes of negotiations with Israel, as mediators are unable to pressure Israel towards agreeing to a deal to end the Gaza war, a source in the Palestinian movement told Sputnik on Tuesday. Hamas Not Expecting Positive Outcome of Negotiations With Israel, Source Says
GAZA (Sputnik) - Since October 7 of last year, when another round of Israel-Palestine escalation began, more than 30,000 people have been killed so far in the Gaza Strip, local authorities said.
The Hamas leadership is not expecting any positive outcomes of negotiations with Israel, as mediators are unable to pressure Israel towards agreeing to a deal to end the Gaza war, a source in the Palestinian movement told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"The situation is very complicated: Israel has not given any agreement on a number of important issues related to the return of Palestinians from the south to the north [of the Gaza Strip], the retreat of the Israeli [military] from the eastern areas of the Gaza Strip, and the delivery of [humanitarian] aid," the source said.
Israel has rejected the proposal
made by Hamas despite the Palestinian movement’s readiness to make a number of concessions, the source added.
"Yesterday the negotiations were suspended, the delegation of the [Hamas] movement decided to withdraw from them, but the Egyptian side asked us to stay, and the delegation decided to stay in Cairo until Israel received answers to important questions, but the Israeli side did not provide anything that could be relied upon to achieve agreements," the source said.
