Rwanda Recalls Kenyan Manufactured Pharmaceutical Due to Early Discoloration
16:27 04.01.2024 (Updated: 16:45 04.01.2024) Four batch numbers of the tablet - which expire on January 31 and August 31, 2025, and which were supposed to be pink in color before that timeline - had started turning into white, according to the authorities' investigation.
Four bulk batches of pink Fluconazole 200mg tablets manufactured in Kenya and imported into Rwanda had a white discoloration and should be therefore recalled from the stores, the Rwanda Food and Drug Authority (Rwanda FDA) said in a statement.
"Rwanda FDA instructs all importers, central medical stores, wholesalers, RMS [Rwanda Medical Supply] branches, retailers, Public and Private Health Facilities to stop the distribution of the above mentioned batches of fluconazole 200mg tablets and return them to their suppliers for proper management," read the statement.
All the importers and suppliers are supposed to report to the authority within 10 days from this Thursday and also inform the Health Ministry of the quantities returned and the final stocks on hand.
The agency said that it will investigate to determine the
adverse effects the drug has had on Rwandans.
