On August 30, Gabon witnessed the military invalidate the outcome of the presidential election held on August 26, thereby denying Ali Bongo Ondimba a third term in office. The coup was led by General Brice Oligui Nguema, who is currently the interim leader of the country.
Cameroon and Gabon reached a consensus on the "opening of new, dynamic" diplomatic relations, Cameroon's President, Paul Biya, said on his social networks following his meeting with Gabon's transitional leader, Brice Oligui Nguema, on Wednesday.
Biya also noted that the negotiations were "cordial and fruitful." The leaders also discussed closer socio-economic cooperation, trade development measures, efforts to strengthen cross-border and regional security, as well as strengthening sub-regional integration, according to the statement,

Nguema is building ties with other African countries as the new interim leader of Gabon. He came to power in late August after the military invalidated the results of the polls, denying Ali Bongo Ondimba a third term in office. Nguema said that it was a liberation and not a coup.
On September 7, Raymond Ndong Sima, a prominent opponent of the ousted Ondimba, was appointed interim prime minister. The country's new cabinet was announced on September 10.
Elections in Gabon are planned for August 2025 under a timetable that first foresees national dialogue, Gabon's military leaders announced.
