MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Heavy gunfire was heard in Guinea-Bissau's capital, Bissau, on Friday after national guard officers attempted to extricate a detained minister, AFP reported, citing military and intelligence sources.
On Thursday, around 22:00 GMT, officers of the country's national guard attempted to extricate an unnamed minister who was being held by police and then took refuge in barracks in the south of the city, the report said.
The report did not specify whether the minister was extricated.
Guinea-Bissau's O Democrata periodical reported that a group of troops of the country's national guard broke into a police precinct to extricate Suleiman Seidi, the country's economy and finance minister, who was arrested by order of the prosecutor's office. The attackers took the minister and another arrested ministry official to an unknown destination, the report said.
