France's exports to its former colony dropped by 4.5 times in August month-on-month, while imports plummeted from 8 million euros to zero. However, zero-rated imports only indicate that Paris did not purchase uranium ore, on which France depends to power its nuclear power plants, in the last summer month. Similarly, France did not ship in uranium from Niger in January and put imports in its statistics at zero. Meanwhile, the country purchased 63,000 euros worth of goods from its then-African partner, including silver jewelry and helicopter parts. Niger was one of the last allies of the West in the Sahel before an elite military force deposed the French-backed president, Mohamed Bazoum, in late July. The Niger's military demanded that France recall its ambassador and withdraw troops from the country. In early October, Niger's national council said that France would withdraw its troops from the African nation, with the first departures last week.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Trade between France and Niger slid to 2 million euros ($2.12 million) in August, the lowest level since January 2000, Sputnik has calculated based on France's customs data.
France's exports to its former colony dropped by 4.5 times in August month-on-month, while imports plummeted from 8 million euros to zero.
