The Russian leader held a bilateral meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Sochi. During the meeting, the presidents discussed, among other things, the situation in Ukraine and the progress of the Russian special military operation.
As many as 300,000 volunteers have already signed up to join Russia's special military operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

"I said a couple of days ago that our men, our soldiers, had already signed contracts with the Russian armed forces, 270,000, but this was already outdated data. This morning they reported about 300,000 signed contracts by people who, I want to emphasize, are ready to sacrifice their lives in the interests of their homeland, defending the interests of Russia," Putin told reporters following the meeting with Lukashenko.

He added that the units now being formed are equipped with modern weapons and equipment, with some of them already about 90% equipped. Even though the Russian authorities pay money to the participants of the operation, people go to serve first of all for patriotic reasons, the president stressed.

Commenting on statements about North Koreans allegedly volunteering to fight in the special military operation, the president called them nonsense, adding that Russia does not need to send foreigners to fight in the operation.
Speaking about the country's cooperation with North Korea, the president highlighted that Russia never violates anything and does not intend to do so, but will develop relations with the nation within the framework of the international law.
He elaborated that Russia has recorded facts of presence of foreign instructors on the battlefield in the special military operation zone in the ranks of Ukrainian troops, and some of them were captured recently.

"We detect foreign mercenaries and foreign instructors both on the battlefield and in the units where training is carried out. I think that, yesterday and the day before yesterday someone was captured once again," Putin told reporters.

The Belarusian president, for his part, stated that instead of accusing Russia of "inviting" someone to participate in a special military operation, Western countries should count how many mercenaries they have already sent to Ukraine.
President Putin also reiterated that Russia has never refused to negotiate with Ukraine on resolving the situation, stressing "that nothing is heard from" the other side.
Lukashenko arrived in Russia the day before. According to the Belarusian side, the main topics of the meeting included the international agenda and regional issues, as well as joint tasks in the economic sphere, including industry, agriculture and other sectors.
