Since April, the conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have wreaked havoc on Sudan, killing some 3,000 civilians and injuring thousands more, according to local medical professionals. The fighting has continued despite several ceasefire agreements reached with the help of mediators from Saudi Arabia and the US.
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, (also known as Hemedti) the commander of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group stated that a liaison committee with political organizations and rebel factions has been established in order "to reach a comprehensive political solution" to the civil strife.
The group "will hold broad consultations on the ongoing Sudanese crisis, and the best way to reach a comprehensive solution with the participation of all political, youth, and societal forces," according to the RSF head's statement.

Sudan Mediation to Resume in Saudi Arabia as Conflict Enters Fourth Month
The Sudanese army made no public remarks regarding the RSF's action.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the hostilities in Sudan have displaced close to 3 million people.
Last week, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that a full-fledged civil war may result from the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
