The Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Council of Heads of State was meeting Tuesday under the presidency of India via videoconference. The summit's agenda covered a wide range of regional and global issues, as well as possible expansion of the organization.
Iran has been granted fully-fledged membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, says the New Delhi declaration adopted following the SCO summit of heads of states.

"Member states stressed the historical significance of the admission of Iran to the SCO as a full member state," the declaration read.

As Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani noted, Iran's joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a full-fledged member would be in the interests of all parties involved.
