Preparations are underway for a meeting in Istanbul on May 5, among the deputy defense ministers of Turkiye, Ukraine and Russia regarding the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said, replying to a question about the possibility of further expanding the grain deal.One of the most controversial issues in fulfilling the agreement is the final destination of the grain exported from Ukrainian ports. The Embassy of the United States in Ankara said earlier in the week that 29 mln metric tons of grain from Ukraine had reached countries with acute food needs.According to the UN, 29,424,000 metric tons of grain have been shipped from Ukrainian ports so far. However, only 2.58% of that, or 758,500 metric tons, went to the poorest countries of sub-Saharan Africa.It is followed by regions such as South Asia receiving 5.8% (1,726,000 metric tons), the Middle East and North Africa getting 15% (4,427,000 metric tons), and the Asia Pacific region with 26.5% (7,794,000 metric tons).European countries received the bulk – 50.2% (14,718,000 metric tons). As of today 1,058 vessels with the cargo of wheat, corn, other grains, sunflower meal and sunflower oil left Ukrainian ports. Listed below are countries that received grain products from Ukraine:

12:21 04.05.2023 (Updated: 10:48 03.08.2023) On May 18, the deadline for the Black Sea Grain Initiative, commonly known as the grain deal, will come to an end. Earlier, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the terms of the agreement had not been fulfilled as far as the Russian agricultural sector was concerned.
