MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United States has never given up on the idea to conduct intelligence activities in Russia, and Moscow confronts it, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
"The United States has never abandoned work and attempts to conduct intelligence activities with us. This meets with appropriate opposition from our side, and in this case, our special services are doing their job," Peskov told reporters.

A package of top secret US Department of Defense documents has been leaked online in the recent weeks, disclosing some of Washington's highly classified military analysis and showing that the US was conducting espionage on its allies and opponents.
Addressing the reporters, Peskov also touched on the matter of the surprise inspection of Russia's Pacific Fleet, saying that the full combat readiness of Russia's naval forces is needed due to turbulent times.
"Our environment is very turbulent in many areas, fraught with conflict situations, regional conflicts. We are all well aware of the geography of these regional conflicts. And that is what it was about," Peskov told reporters, commenting on Putin's remark.
Since April 14, Russia has been holding a surprise inspection of the Pacific Fleet. Earlier on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu that separate units of the forces of the naval forces and asked to pay attention to the development and preparation of sudden inspections both in the Pacific Fleet and in other fleets.
The spokesman also commented on Tokyo's protest over the drill near the Kuril Islands.
"All exercises are carried out in strict accordance with international law," Peskov told reporters.
