Russians living in Angola held the Immortal Regiment commemorative march in the country's capital, the Russian Embassy in Luanda told Sputnik Africa.
For the first time, the march took place in the heart of Angola—at the historic 16th-century São Miguel Fortress, now home to the national Museum of the Armed Forces.
The event was preceded by a ceremony featuring a replica of the Victory Banner and the presentation of awards to Russian military specialists serving in Angola.
Russia's Chargé d'Affaires Alexander Bryantsev and Chief Military Advisor to Angola's Supreme Commander, Major General Vladislav Kharchenko, emphasized in their speeches the importance of preserving historical memory and strengthening the tradition of service to the homeland.
Angolan military leadership—including Chief of the General Staff Air Force General Altino Carlos José dos Santos, Navy Commander Admiral Valentim Alberto António, Air Force Commander General Virgínio António da Cunha Pinto, and other senior commanders—also attended the ceremony.
