African Union Commission Expresses Concern Over Escalating Tensions in Persian Gulf

Attacks on key infrastructure, including energy and transport facilities, are disrupting vital supply chains, with significant impacts on international trade and global energy markets, AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said.

The chairperson also condemned violations of international law and actions threatening state sovereignty, urging all parties to exercise restraint. He called for renewed diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.

Youssouf emphasized that stability in the Gulf is crucial for global energy security and the international economy, noting its direct impact on Africa.

Rising oil prices, disruptions to trade routes, and challenges in exporting perishable goods are putting significant strain on markets, he noted.

He reaffirmed the African Union's commitment to international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes, adding that the commission will continue to closely monitor developments in the region.
