Paleontological Breakthrough: Algeria Discovers Remains of Ancient Marine Reptile for First Time
The partial fossil is that of a plesiosaur that lived approximately 88 million years ago, researchers from Houari Boumediene University of Science and Technology announced.
👉 Until now, only amphibious dinosaurs, crocodiles, and turtles had been discovered in Algeria.
This new find confirms for the first time that marine reptiles inhabited the waters that once covered what is now Algeria.
Scientists are already planning further expeditions to Tébessa to find other parts of the skeleton of this same animal. The goal is to determine the exact species of the plesiosaur and understand how living conditions evolved in this region millions of years ago.
